a guide to edibility

The origin of the website lies in the assignment Eric Boa received from FAO to write Wild edible fungi. A global overview of their use and importance to people*. The writing was the start of a quest for data on uses of fungi from as many countries as possible, a search that continued after the book was published in 2004. As the data accumulated and it became more difficult to manage, Miriam de Román became involved. She helped in the later stages of database development and, crucially, in finalising this website. Eric and Miriam are indebted to Paul Kirk of CABI, who has checked scientific names, suggested changes to reflect current taxonomic thinking, and given technical support in the development of the website. People who provided information on wild useful fungi are mentioned in the Acknowledgements; a fuller list appears in the book.
